CM1a provides an introduction to the key concepts of Digital Society, Social Innovation, and Global Citizenship.
Students learn to describe and analyse social innovations that respond to challenges in the digital age, while developing an understanding of how these innovations can foster inclusive and sustainable societies. The course examines the interconnections between digital technologies, digitalisation, and citizenship, encouraging students to critically reflect on their social, cultural, and ethical implications. Through case studies and theoretical discussions, participants explore the most relevant topics and areas for social innovation, ranging from education and governance to community engagement and environmental sustainability. By linking theory to practice, students gain the ability to evaluate the potential of digital tools and innovations for promoting global citizenship and sustainable development. The course also develops skills in critical thinking, interdisciplinary dialogue, and constructive debate, enabling participants to approach digital challenges from multiple perspectives. Taught in English and offered on a biennial basis, the course equips students with the knowledge and competencies needed to actively engage with and contribute to the future of the digital society.
Together with CM1b, this course forms part of Summer School I, which is delivered as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) in collaboration with the three degree-awarding universities: the University of Naples Federico II (UNINA), Palacký University Olomouc (UPOL) and the University of Innsbruck (UIBK). It will be held in person at UPOL.
